Again and again, Sam proved herself to be a tirelessly committed public servant that is able to bring incredible levels of energy, creativity, and open-mindedness to everything she touched. I really can’t speak highly enough of Sam. Since her having left City Hall, very few days have passed where my colleagues and I haven’t come across a challenging project where we look at each other and say, “You know who could really do this? Sam Hammar.

“It was realized because of Sam.” That is a statement so, so many people have said. For me, one of the most personally rewarding, professionally meaningful projects was catalyzed because of Sam. The first thing you will notice is her energy, positivity, and passion. From there, the partnerships bloom, the communications rocket, and her leadership drives insanely good outcomes. Outcomes that could only happen when someone with Sam’s skills and talents is rallying disparate organizations and people. Outcomes that could only happen with Sam’s leadership and decision-making driving the project. Start working with her and soon you too will be leading off with that statement said by so many others.

When Sam took on a leading role in the creation and development of the Boston Innovation District, she was once again at the front of developing and deploying a major effort. Sam was a primary member of decision makers in City Hall, determining new policies and programs to foster the growth of the Innovation District. Under her own volition, Sam’s career blossomed as she worked with the City’s Department Heads to provide them new ways of innovating the way they interacted with their constituencies in the District.

Sam is creative, dedicated, smart and willing to learn any skill she needs to get the job done. During our time at the BRA, she was the driving force behind ONEin3 Money, from sourcing funding to building the website, designing to the programming and writing communications. From start to finish, Sam led the effort and did a fantastic job. At the BRA and beyond, I have seen Sam take leadership over many programs and initiatives, pushing them from idea to execution.

Sam is a natural connector, helping bridge startups to government and government to startups. I am always impressed by her passion, her sense of mission, and her awareness of key efforts across the Commonwealth. She knows where to plug in leaders to drive results versus just continued dialogue.

I worked with Sam in 2013 to launch Scale Up Milwaukee, a major economic development project using entrepreneurship as a driving wedge for growth. Sam was phenomenal and I would bring her on board future projects if I could!! She is a wizard at social media and has a deep understanding of engagement communication, honed launching the Boston Innovation District in 2010.

Sam is a visionary with the energy to execute major initiatives. She has a strong understanding of the entrepreneurial community in the Boston region and beyond, as well as what it takes to engage with them. And Sam is one of the most civically-minded people I’ve ever met!

Sam’s value-added skills do not exist in the vacuum of the web. I do not believe that I have even met someone as friendly and outgoing as Sam. This allows her to develop lasting relationships with partners and team members to advance an organization’s goals. I have seen Sam broker compromises between parties with totally differing viewpoints and have everyone feeling satisfied with the situation. That skill set is valuable when dealing with multiple industries and especially true with startups and tech companies.

I worked for Sam for two years, going from a part-time position to full-time. Her unwavering support for her employees was truly remarkable. Getting a front row seat to seeing her work through the Greenhorn Connect company acquisition, and building partnerships with city, state, and corporate partnerships was absolutely invaluable! Sam is a gem, and is a real-life Leslie Knope right here in Massachusetts!

Sam Hammar is one of those truly gifted people who have a range of superior skills and abilities, but understands that it is her network and her overall kindness that makes her invaluable to all of us. I have worked with Sam on of some very large public/private partnership programs, educational collaborations, and entrepreneurial ventures. She is someone who always gets the job done in a creative and cooperative manner. She is both a leader and a doer. I give her my top 1% recommendation!

Samantha was my supervisor during my two-month internship at the Boston Redevelopment authority, and I could not have wished for a better boss. She always made sure I had interesting, demanding tasks and that I was learning something. Taking part in many of her projects I learned a lot from her about project management, event planning, fundraising and making great ideas work. She is an extremely intelligent, efficient and creative hard worker who’s always looking to improve things. Anyone who has the chance to work with Samantha can count their lucky stars.
