Lead with Experience in what’s possible.

Melrose needs a Mayor who is willing to say and do the things that matter, manage a team of peers already dedicated to public service, and someone with the judgment born of hard experience and the heart to go with it.

This is my life’s work. I can see our possibilities.

20 years of state and local government experience

I know the real-life consequences of government policy. I’ve taught in public schools. I’ve transformed the way government delivers services to the public. I’ve helped small business owners navigate the complexities of today’s economy and regulatory environment.

There’s a lot we can do in Melrose that we haven’t done yet. And I know how to because I’ve already done it.

Economic Development in arts, culture, and small businesses for a vibrant, thriving city.

Read our Arts & Culture Agenda for how we will do this work.

City-Owned Buildings Strategy

We have beautiful spaces and magnificent buildings. To keep rental costs low for Melrose residents and organizations, maximizing revenue from outside events will be instrumental. As Mayor, I want to work with DPW, building staff, Trustees, and Friends organizations to build a profitable business plan that serves all of our city-owned buildings to the levels they need for maintenance and improvements.

Proactive Business Development

With my experience in working with the business communities and building owners, I want to attract retailers and services for Melrose that we not only want, but also need. This plan will specifically include recruiting and supporting more childcare businesses to start or expand in Melrose, so our families can have their youngest members be close to home.

Cultural District Designation and Activation

Our vibrant creative economy and small business community can thrive through a concerted effort to promote Melrose as a destination. By supporting a Cultural District, we can build on the wonderful events we already have and add to the energy and excitement to scale city-wide.

Business Districts that Attract and Entice Shoppers to Stay

Our neighborhood business districts are convenient for surrounding neighbors and unique destinations for shoppers. With a great mix of retailers and inviting outdoor areas, I want shoppers to stay to spend more time and more money in our neighborhoods.

Kind Words on Experience

From someone who served on the BOA/City Council for 20 years and had the honor of serving as the Mayor for 2 years when Mayor Dolan resigned, I am all in for Sam to do the job! She has 20 years of government experience and has made herself known in Melrose to rebuild the bridges and have the conversations with all people. She will be a breath of fresh air! I am proud to stand with Sam for Mayor!

Former Melrose Mayor

Sam is exactly what Melrose needs right now: local government expertise, strong knowledge of our city's budget, and a creative and innovative approach. Sam lives her values every day, and also understands that real progress happens when we call people *in* to the conversations, not by calling them out. I'm proud to support her candidacy and I'm excited for the work ahead.
