Melrose will Thrive with Sam Hammar as Mayor

This past year, I joined hundreds of educators and families on Main Street who were gathered to show support for a new teacher contract. My friend Sam Hammar was by my side, and as we stood together in the cold, we discussed what it will take to fix our schools and our city. We both understand that contract negotiations are complicated, and that our city has limited resources. But we agreed that doing right by our educators should not require a protest outside of City Hall. And as we talked, Sam confirmed what I know to be true for any community facing uncertainty. The only way to fix it is together. It was at that moment I knew I wanted Sam to run for Mayor.

The next mayor of Melrose should be someone who is skilled at proper budgeting, embraces accountability, and is committed to growing the future of our city. That person is Sam Hammar. Sam has a clear understanding of how city budgets are supposed to be completed with a long and short lens. Sam is committed to seeing Melrose thrive through creative and effective collaborations. She is already working to preserve and enhance the best elements of the city we love. I have personally watched Sam create paths of engagement with community members to better support our educators during contract negotiations, our neighbors during the pandemic, and our arts and business community through the Creative Alliance.

My hope is that Melrose residents will take time to meet Sam at one of her public events, ask hard questions, and see for themselves just how capable she is. And then, on September 19, Melrose will cast their vote for Sam Hammar because they have decided for themselves she is the best candidate to take Melrose where they want it to go.
