Putting my support behind Sam Hammar

Writing this letter was not an easy thing to do but I felt compelled to do so. I grew up in Melrose, raised my family in Melrose and dedicated much of my adult life to working in the Melrose Public Schools and at City Hall. This city has been good for me and I could not see myself living anywhere else.

The next election for mayor is one of the most important ones we have had in recent years. The next mayor will have to deal with numerous issues. What will we do with with our police and fire stations, streets in need of repair, schools in need of continual attention, IT issues, structural issues, child care for our younger families, affordability for our aging population, space left in Wyoming Cemetery, rising health insurance rates for city employees, unions and contracts as well as so many other demands? This will be a huge job for our next city leader.

We are fortunate that we have three candidates that are willing to put their lives on hold and serve our great city of Melrose. Each comes with a wealth of experiences, with multiple years of dedicated public service. I want to thank all three of the candidates for their willingness to serve our city.

After careful thought and reflection, I am putting my support behind Sam Hammar.

She has the vision and experience needed to deal with the challenges that Melrose will be facing into the future. Ms. Hammar has already proved that she is a problem solver, hard worker, bridge-builder, and has experience doing municipal work. With her vast and specialized experience and the volunteer work she has done for Melrose, she can solve the needs we face in Melrose.

I consider myself a moderate and believe that many of the beliefs and values that Ms. Hammar puts forth coincide with mine. She is willing to take a position on difficult issues even if met with much resistance. With this firmness and sincerity, her authentic leadership is what Melrose needs.

I am asking you to support Sam Hammar in the upcoming election.

Sincerely,

Marty Stanton
